About

Now, and then (age 9).  I try to keep my inner child(ren) happy and giggling.

About the title:  I know many people who, at least on the surface, seem to order from the prix fixe menu of (middle-class American) life that includes one more-or-less continuous career, marriage and children (with one spouse), a life that looks “stable”, that fits the cultural narrative of what (over?) educated adults do. I always thought I’d be the prix fixe person, but I’m more of an à la carte spirit, someone who wants to sample widely, but not indiscriminately, from life’s experiences.  My spiritual life is also à la carte:  I’ve sat in silent, week long retreats at the Elat Chayyim Center for Jewish Spirituality and the Zen Monastery Peace Center.  In the fall of 2012 I walked the Camino de Santiago, from St. Jean Pied de Port to Finisterre, in the footsteps of millions of Pilgrims.

About the content:  I serve up writing on a variety of subjects, including creativity, identity, language, religion, spirituality, awareness and, of course, food. In the last year or so I’ve focused more on the Feldenkrais Method.

About Ilona: Writer, traveler, seeker, occasional contrarian. I grew up in Massachusetts, have lived (among other places) in New York City, Budapest and Mexico City (for longer periods) and Ecuador and Israel (for shorter periods), and Colorado. Currently a nomad. I speak Hungarian, Spanish, some Hebrew, and, mon dieu, pathetic high school French. For those who care about such things, I graduated Bryn Mawr College with an A.B. in Mathematics and hold an M.A. in International Relations and Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). I’ve completed two years of a Feldenkrais Professional Training Program.

      • I saw one of your post “B.I.T.C.H” via an INTJ group I just joined up. Two days later, I read it and remembered saying to myself, I WISH I have read it earlier ..like 10 years earlier. Also, the authority v.s authenticity,…hmmm, same struggle, but you enlighten me with Insights. I love your work & the energy you weave through out the posts. it is just wholesome, “it is life!”

For the past four years, I went through a rebuilding process.. and now I know it is really a process of becoming who I am, and honor it 😉 Sending you love
